2008 Sermon Tip -- Thoughts on Making Your Presentation
The following
words of counsel on delivering sermons came from a survey of pulpit
ministers.
• It was
once said that the real purpose of a sermon is to fill up the time
while you love the congregation. So, when speaking, think of how
you can LOVE them, think what can you give to them; the moment you
think about yourself and how you are sounding, etc., you're lost.
• Prepare
more than you ever think you need - so you can feel free to pick
and choose as Spirit moves.
• Speak
FROM your heart TO the heart of each listener, which means putting
the ego into service TO Spirit.
• Know
how to project your voice to every part of the room. This includes
a mike check IN ADVANCE, without fail. Modulate the voice for effect.
• Be well
prepared and be open to listening when Spirit has other ideas about
your script, and/or has inspiring input to your comments.
• Love
what you are doing.
• Be authentic.
• Share
of yourself.
• Stay
humble.
• See God
in each person.
• Inspire
yourself and you will inspire your listeners.
